How it Works Financially

Oikonomos International enables missionaries in high-cost locations to afford to keep their homes while on extended absences from the field. House Stewards partner with Missionaries by cost-sharing rent and utility expenses, living in the home or apartment, and covering their own travel and living expenses.

Oikonomos Stewards raise their own support. Some Stewards cover all their expenses themselves while others seek contributions from friends, family, and their church. Once partnered with a Missionary, Stewards may have an account established at Oikonomos to collect and track the funds raised for the Stewards. This fund may be used to cover training, rent/utilities, travel to and from the location, and for some living expenses. A small fee is deducted from these contributions to support the administrative costs of the organization. 

Costs are clearly a concern for both Missionaries and Stewards. Since our ministry operates on a cost-sharing basis, it is important to understand the Missionary needs/Steward contributions. While we have found a 40-60% contribution toward rent and utilities to be reasonable, we ask Missionaries to consider their specific needs and provide an estimate in the application.
