For Stewards

You have time available and an interest in serving the Lord overseas. You have a servant’s heart and an interest in seeing how missionaries live. As an Oikonomos Steward, you will be paired with a missionary or missionary couple for a specific timeframe, typically six months.

Oikonomos International will require six to twelve months for vetting and preparing Stewards. 

This allows time for the application and interview process, training, and pairing the Stewards with specific missionary requests and raising support.

Language requirements will vary based on the posting. Basic proficiency in the local language is strongly desired.

Stewards are briefed on the house or apartment, on the local conditions, and on the local church. You will raise the funds needed to cost-share rent and utilities, for travel, and for your daily expenses.  Your daily expenses may not be a part of the tax-deductible use of funds.

Stewards spend up to six months house-sitting in a missionary home, engage in the local church, and experience life in a foreign country. Your time in-country will be limited by the maximum allowable time of a Tourist Visa. Stewards are not missionaries and are not “working” while in-country. This is a necessary stipulation in order to qualify for the Tourist Visa. 

Through the application, you will tell us about yourself and your ministry experience in your home church. You will also tell us of your language skills and your regional or national interest. 

Since our Stewards represent our organization and will be entrusted with the home and possessions of missionaries, applicants will undergo a financial and criminal background check and must have three letters of recommendation, including one from the Pastor or Session of their church. Stewards will also undergo an interview and training.
